We manufacture a comprehensive range of custom solutions, including compression springs, extension springs, torsion and double torsion springs, conical springs, rings, clutch springs, valve springs, and safety springs. We also specialize in highly complex, custom wire forms, flat springs, heating elements, resistance coils, and small assemblies.

2. What are your dimensional capabilities for custom springs?

Our state-of-the-art CNC equipment allows us to handle a wide range of custom sizes:
  • High-Volume Production: Wire diameters from 0.005″ to 0.250″.
  • Prototypes and Short Runs: Wire diameters from 0.005″ up to 1.75″.

3. What materials are available for my custom application?

We can manufacture your springs using a vast array of standard, high-performance, and exotic materials tailored to your specific environment (e.g., high heat, corrosive, biocompatible). Common materials include:
  • Standard & High Carbon: Music Wire, Hard Drawn, Oil Temper

We are fully equipped to handle both high-volume custom production runs and short-run prototyping. Whether you need a single prototype to prove out a design or a continuous production run of millions of parts, our facilities can support your requirements.

5. Can your engineering team help me design my spring?

Absolutely. Murphy & Read is proudly engineer-operated. Our leadership and staff consist of mechanical engineers who are 5th-generation spring manufacturers. We offer comprehensive technical consultations, CAD development, and prototyping services. If you prefer to design it yourself, we also provide a proprietary online spring configuration tool to help you generate your own CAD drawings.

6. What information do you need to provide an accurate custom quote?

To ensure precision and a fast turnaround on your quote, please provide:
  • Detailed CAD drawings or precise sketches.
  • Critical dimensions and tolerances (both linear and angular).
  • Specific material requirements, including preferred grades and necessary certifications.
  • Finish specifications, surface treatments, or specialized cleanliness requirements.
  • If you don’t have all this information, contact us—our engineers will help you figure it out.

7. Do you manufacture Military Specification (MIL-Spec) springs?

Yes. Military applications demand the highest levels of reliability and precision. We specialize in producing a large variety of MIL-spec springs, including compression springs manufactured to exacting AS24585 and MS24585 standards.
